Week 5 Day 6 - Wednesday, June 18th - R/O Soccer and games!

This morning Arnold headed off early to work again to meet us at Soccer for supper. The boys and I hung out for a bit until they really really wanted to go and see Nana and Papa’s bus (sorry guys!). They booked it over there and found Nana still in bed. We sat and visited for a bit then I got the boys to come over to our trailer and get dressed while Nana did the same thing and Papa got breakfast ready. Nothing but the best for our boys (bacon and eggs). They were so excited! It also helped that we brought out the kites for that morning. There seemed to be just enough wind to make them get off the ground. Kyler had so much fun! We had bacon, eggs and toast for breakfast. RIGHT before we had breakfast mom hurt her back. This sucked! She was now a bit more limited to what she could do. We all had breakfast then the boys went into the bus to hang out for a bit. Once we were done (BTW we ate late so this is around 9:30 or so) I went and finished getting ready and we took Nana to Shoppers Drug Mart to get some things she needed for the trip over the boarder!

While we were there we also picked up some things for supper that night. Our goal (Auntie Kristina and mine) is to have a ‘sub’ night every Wednesday before the games. I was hoping to get some serious food figured out but with the weather playing ticks (raining and looking bad all day). We got the buns and some chips and a few other things then off we went home. We played for a bit more then had some lunch (sandwiches and popcorn ending with homemade cookies from Nana). Once lunch was over the boys and I headed back to the trailer and it was nap time. They needed to sleep before going to soccer.

I spent most of nap time doing some serious looking online about the weather, calling the soccer office (that didn’t do anything for those reading), and checking to see what was going on. I finally called the coach and she told me she wasn’t bringing her daughter (she didn’t want her to get sick) but was coming herself.

We left around 4:15pm or so and headed out. We stopped at the Library to pick up 2 new books and 2 new movies for the kids. Then we drove over to McDonalds by the park and had a nice relaxed supper. Arnold met us there and had lots of time to get changed and get ready for a wet game. We left in what would have been a fine ‘normal’ time but because no one was on the field do to rain it was super early. We got K dressed for his game and waited. Eventually we got out of the car (like 2 to 3 minutes before it should have started) and my dad, who can talk to anyone, ended up having the main coach from the opposite team talk to him. He said let’s call it due to rain and so we did. We packed up and left as did everyone else there.

I felt so bad for my parents. They came to see a game and it got rained out! We stopped and got some milkshakes and headed back home. We had a great games night instead! It was a lot of fun. Arnold and I found all our rainy day games and brought them to the Bus and we played them there. We brought the kids back to go to sleep around 8:30pm or so.

Arnold and I stayed up and were watching an episode on my computer when we got a text saying to call my mom. It turns out their trip the next day that they thought would take 4 hours would take 8 hours. They had to leave super early. So we wouldn’t get to have breakfast with them but that’s ok.

We headed off to sleep shortly after to the sound of rain.

Speech Therapy - Week 1 - UPDATE

We have been working on it for almost 1 week. I would say about 2 to 3 times a day Q will come up on my lap, take my hands and say ROW or UP UP UP! Then I know what he wants. In our books we were given there was a spot that talked about a 'new' song to do called "'Round and 'Round the Garden"

Basically here's what you do:

Take the childs hand in yours and have it facing palm up.
With your pointer finger do this:

Sing:

'Round and 'round the garden
Goes the Teddy Bear (While drawing a circle on their palm)
One step (make your fingers 'walk' up their arm)
Two step (get closer to their shoulder)
Tickle you under there! (and tickle them).

Q loves loves loves this one!

We are working on reading books, when we can. We have our library books for 1 more week so that is helpful. Then we will bring them back and get some new ones.

He also spends alot of time on my bed (since it's been raining alot) and we play eye to eye. A friend of ours (thanks SOOO much Tracy) got Q a game called "knows the nose" or something like that. You have 4 animals to choose from (you get cards with their faces on them) and you have to put your hand into a bag and pull out a nose and see if it matches your cards. We have so much fun playing with that saying things like "Nose on! Nose off! silly Nose (when it's on the wrong one)" It really is a new teaching adventure!

We have now 'mastered' the words:

up
down
out
in
peek
sleep
Rolly
Row

I will have to find our list for the other words he knew when we went into our appointment compaired to what he knows now.

Speech Therapy - Week 1

We started out in a group at the main centre then we went over to another room. There are 6 or 7 kids (I think 1 was missing). When you get there first the parents sit down for ‘circle time’ and the kids go off and play. We get told what our ‘goals’ are for this week and how to apply them. Then we head off to our kiddos. This week we had 3 different goals. They are very similar to what we were told to do in our assessment already. 1 – Get down to their level. Play with them on the floor and when talking to them crouch down so they know you are there and can watch your mouth. 2 – Don’t ask questions (unless it has to deal with things like do you have to go potty). They wanted to make sure we didn’t sit around asking the kids questions that they already know like “Is that a ball?” when the child can already say ball. Why make them do it again? Work on something else like point to the ball (or hold it) and say “BIG ball” or “Red ball”. And see if you can get them to say another word. 3 – Talk face to face with them. We were challenged with looking into their eyes so they can see our face. Also if we are at their level we can see what they are looking at.

During our play time Q and I played with some balls. So we did a lot of “balls in! balls out! Match balls.” That kind of stuff. Then we played with some rings and we did some “rings on, rings off, rings stuck, big rings, small rings”. Our last toy was blocks. So it was more of “Blocks on, Blocks off, big blocks, tower, crash!”. I was beginning to feel like I didn’t learn anything, like I was just repeating the same thing but it seems to be working. About this time was when Q had felt like he was done. He started packing up all the blocks and zipping up the containers. It made me laugh. We went and had snack time. The 2 main leaders split up into 2 tables and had snacks. They sang a song and tried to get the kids to sit down. Q did *not* want to stay but I managed to get him to sit down. We talked about everything on the table. The kids were given cups, and had to try and say cup. Then they got to pick their juice (apple or orange). The teacher only gave them a bit so that they had to ask for more. Then they got some napkins and Q wiped his face and was ready to go. She pulled out cookies and he sat right back down again! He was really good with asking for more fish (goldfish crackers) and juice. When we were all done he cleaned up really well. I was very proud of him for using so many words.
Again after this Q was beyond ready to go. He even took my hand and went to the door. Instead we sat down for circle time and learned a new song. When Q finally sat down we learned about how important it is to read with the kids. To take a few moments every week/day and read with them. It’s not that they have to know what is going on and you don’t even have to read the words but anything is good. We ‘read’ a spot book. It was cute. Then we sang some songs. Q and I learned some new ones. We did “Row, Row, Row your boat”, “Rolly Polly”, and did them a few times. Even after only singing Rolly Polly 2 times Q had caught on to different things and what they mean. It was so cool to see. Then we said goodbye and off we went!

Week 5 Day 5 - Tuesday, June 16th - Nana and Papa arrive

PHOTOS TO COME LATER ***I still have to upload them from the Zen so it will be a bit but I promise to post them later***

Since I am a bit behind I can tell you these last few days may not really make much sense, or have much grounding but I figured I should post them anyway.

Today my camera got a bit of a break. Our day started out with Daddy heading off to work a bit early and us chilling out. I cleaned/organized a bit and got ready for Trevor, the babysitter, to come and watch Kyler. Trevor showed up *just* at 10am and off Q and I went. Q was so upset about having to leave Trevor. They have a blast all the time. Q and I went to his Speech Therapy. It was cool. (more on that in the next post)

Once we were done Quinton and I headed off to Arnold’s work. We dropped off the meals I made Arnold the night before and took Arnold out for lunch. It was nice to get a few minutes alone. We even made use of what we learned in Tim’s with timbits! After saying goodbye we headed home. I did get a few second to stop and pick up some things we needed for supper at the store. When we got home Trevor and Kyler were watching a movie after a long bike ride. They had a lot of fun.

Once Trevor headed up to meet his mom for a ride home I put the boys down for a nap. I bribed them (yes you read that right) with telling them if they had a big sleep Nana and Papa would come. I didn’t lie I just couldn’t make it ‘unhappen’.

My parents arrived around 5pm I think. It was a lot longer than I thought but they said the highway was just crazy! They got here and started to get situated. I had to laugh because Dad had some serious issues getting the back wheel on the wood to make it level. Mom and I finally decided to give him his Father’s Day gift early. It’s these Lynx blocks. Kyler thinks they are big lego’s; which really, they look like it. Dad got a set of 8 or 10 I think and used those to help with their RV. It worked perfectly! I’m glad he is getting good use out of them!

We chilled out for a bit while I waited for Arnold to get home. He was running a bit late but it worked ok for us. We just hung out. I got supper ready about when he was getting home. We had Sour Cream chicken with rice and broccoli. It was really good. After supper Mom and I did dishes and headed out on a walk while Arnold and my Dad checked the van. I’m having issues with it and the AC so they check and I guess it’s working just not as ‘fast’ and as ‘cold’ as I want it. Oh well.

Once we had done our walk we started a fire! The kids were in heaven! They watched the fire for a bit and we did one last run up to the washrooms and back down again. It was time for bed but Nana made them go to her tent and get their faces washed. Silly us for not washing them.

We all headed off to bed about the same time. It worked out rather well actually. We were so tired!

Week 5 Day 4 - Monday, June 15th - Swimming and phone issues

This morning, as you can tell, the boys gave me a bit of extra time. I managed to get the blog generally updated, or at least ready to be updated, and even some photos done! They played with their new lizards from the OSC.

We headed outside to play in the hot sun for a bit; after finding our lizards (again), hats and new clothes. Aren’t the boys cute?

The boys spent the rest of the morning working on bubbles, playing with new toys and playing on the swing. Between these few we are set for a bit!

Then the boys thought that in order to get the birds closer they should make a nest.

Attempt number one:

Then we talked a bit about why birds nests are the way they are . So we tried again and got this one:

The boys really liked it and made a few more examples of it during the morning.

We also got to find a dragonfly! Very lucky!

Last light we packed up all the dishes from the party and put them in the car so today it was my job to wash them all. That took a good few hours. I fed the boys lunch and washed the dishes and set them out to dry.

I put the boys down for a nap, which surprisingly they went down quickly and then I got ready for our evening plans. Our Soccer Coach called yesterday and said no practice today so we went to Auntie Kristina and Uncle Tim’s house. I made a grocery list for the day and cleaned up the garbage and recycling and got them in the car. Once the boys got up we headed out.

We stopped at the grocery store and got the things we needed to make Chicken pot Pie for Arnold and I realized that I didn’t have any containers to put them in. It was a long day to say the least. We headed over to their house anyway. We also started to see issues with my phone…. Wouldn’t you know it! I can receive calls (not very well) but I can’t make calls. Not true, I can make them but I can’t hear the other person unless my phone is on speaker. I hate this phone sometimes.. heck all the time right now.

We got into the parking lot and Arnold pulled up so we all headed upstairs at the same time. We ordered pizza for supper and Kristina and I started cooking the meal for Arnold (and E). Once we all had supper the Daddies and kiddos went for a swim in the pool. Kristina and I finished cooking the meals and we packed it all up. It worked out rather well. After we finished up some laundry the boys and I headed out. I’m so grateful for friends like them. It’s wonderful to have a place I can go to feed Arnold (well cook him meals).

Once we got home I put the boys to bed and Arnold Raccoon-proofed the place. Then it was off to bed!

Oh yeah… and as far as the phone goes “these things have happened and I guess your phone is doing it” was the response from Rogers. ANNOINING! So they are sending me a new phone, free of charge, I hope so! If this happens again I’m getting a different brand!

Busy week!

Hey Readers!

It's a very busy week this week for us (as was the weekend).

This past weekend (as you may know by now) was so busy! We had a lot going on and it kept me away from the camera and computer at some points!

This week so far we are going to have a fun day by ourselves right now, then tonight we are going to Auntie Kristina's house to make some more meals for Daddy and have some pizza!

Tomorrow Quinton has his first Speech Therapy lesson in the morning and Nana and Papa are coming later in the day.

Wednesday, Nana and Papa are here and we have a soccer game, assuming the rain stops

Thursday, Nana and Papa leave and the boys and I might be doing the zoo (again hoping there is no rain)

Friday leads into our busy weekend (so hopefully we are doing nothing) and then Saturday and Sunday we are off to be 'Tourists in Toronto!'

So please forgive me in advance if I'm not able to get some updates but I promise they are coming!

Week 5 Day 3 - Sunday, June 14th - PARTY!

It was a busy day! I’m sure you all know that the boys’ birthdays were back in March and April but what you may not know is that we didn’t really have a party for them. For Kyler we had a party here that was basically lunch at Tuckers (part of my brothers birthday), swimming and then supper in Nana and Papa’s hotel room. For Quinton we had his party/Easter at my parents’ house in April.

This morning when we woke up we got the boys bathed and breakfast then dressed and off to church we went. I was so busy getting things cleaned up in the trailer that I didn’t even get a chance to eat breakfast!

Once we got to church we all headed off in our own directions. Kyler and Quinton went off to nursery for Sunday school and church. I went to the C&C room for our Bible study and then up to church, and Arnold went off to do sound for the morning.

We had a great service. It was a youth service with a youth band and a few other ‘youthish things’. Then we headed out to go home. We did a quick stop at the grocery store on the way home to get a few things for the party. We are finding that anything ‘large’ we need to wait until the day of to get. So today we got a fruit and veggie tray, some burgers, hotdogs, chips and stuff. It worked out rather well since the boys fell asleep and I could get some alone time in the van while Arnold did the grocery shopping.

As soon as we got home the boys went into watch some more George and Arnold and I did some organizing. Arnold got done his bit first and went upstairs and paid for our next month of rent here. So at least you all know you have another month with me here blogging!

Around 3pm our friends came over. We had a nice, relaxed party. I was surprised how little I had to clean for the party. I guess when there is no cutting the lawn, dusting, vacuuming, ect, it’s a bit easier.

Here’s the photos from the party. Enjoy!

After everyone left we played a few games of Quinton’s new ‘nose’ game. It was so much fun to watch the kids figure out which went with which.

Then it was off to bed to the sound of rain.
